there has been so much news being reported about nanotechnology and i was wondering what everyone thought would be the best application of it?

I really like the nanotubes application replacing steel (http://themoderngreen.com/2008/09/30/carbon-nanotubes-breakthrough-could-replace-steel/) and also the "hairy" solar cells (http://themoderngreen.com/2008/10/06/solar-panel-works-at-night/).

They look like this...and it looks really promising

There are so many widespread possibilities of it, that I don't know if there is one "best". Obviously the medical benefits they are working with could be huge, but also there are things like cleaning up oil spills and such that would really help the environment. I suppose the best application is whichever one benefits those causes closest to your heart.

I agree that this one is pretty cool. Here is an article I was reading on that, really cool.

Well, I am afraid that this may be way over my head! It does sound like this is something that could be of great benefit to many things.
